Introducing the Global Violent Deaths report

Measuring Progress in Implementing Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies: Introducing the new report 'Global Violent Deaths 2017'

Watch the event live via Facebook

Peace is one of the five areas of critical importance for humanity in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. Sustainable Development Goal 16 commits states to ‘promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective and accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels'.

The first target under this Goal, Target 16.1, commits all states to ‘significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere’. The Small Arms Survey will introduce its newest report, 'Global Violent Deaths 2017' at the occasion of the Geneva Peace Week. Building on the Survey’s multi-source time-series database on violent deaths, the report will present the 2017 picture of this key indicator for SDG16.
