Tracing the Untraceable: Ammunition Diversion Traceability

On the occasion of the Preparatory Meeting of States of the Global Framework on the Through-life Management of Conventional Ammunition (GFA), Conflict Armament Research (CAR), in cooperation with the European Union, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, is convening a panel dialogue to share technical insights to operationalise the security objectives of the GFA in preventing, mitigating, and responding to ammunition diversion.

It seeks to demonstrate ways to enhance ammunition traceability in line with the GFA’s objectives, from field documentation, identification, record-keeping, profiling, tracing, to application of technological solutions. Following the panel discussion, the side-event will remain open for delegations to learn further about new technological developments in ammunition diversion traceability, interact with physical demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies in action, and explore their potential applications in national and regional contexts.
