It also promotes efforts to design more effective operational approaches to humanitarian assistance.
Based in Bogotá, Colombia, CERAC is a private research organization specialized in data-intensive studies of conflict and criminal violence. It investigates the spatial and temporal dynamics of violence from a variety of methodological perspectives, with a strong focus on human impact. CERAC was established in December 2004 by an international and multidisciplinary group of researchers. Current research topics include human security, conflict analysis, conflict measurement, and urban security.
The CPC plays a key role in supporting the OSCE's activities in the field, assisting the implementation of their mandates. In OSCE-parlance, this means the Centre is responsible for supporting the Organization's Chairman-in-Office (CiO) and the Secretary General in implementing OSCE tasks in the areas of: early warning; conflict prevention; crisis management; and post-conflict rehabilitation.

Desarme
The future success of efforts to deal with the problem of armed violence and other threats to human security will depend in large part on the development of accurate and accessible information. Currently, much of the existing information on these topics is produced in English. For the 670 million Spanish and Portuguese speakers in the world, the scarcity or inaccessibility of information in these languages hinders development of concerted efforts to curb armed violence. Recognizing the need to fill this important gap, Viva Rio, in collaboration with other NGOs in the MERCOSUR region, has developed a website with news and information in Spanish and Portuguese on disarmament and human security.
Europa World reports on international development and humanitarian actions of European institutions, governments and NGOs, including European-based United Nations agencies. Its purpose is to inform, explain and entertain.
The Programme for International Co-operation and Conflict Resolution (PICCR) is an umbrella programme for Fafo AIS initiatives related to the policies and practices of international responses to armed conflict. PICCR is actively engaged with other non-governmental organisations, governments, and multilateral institutions in efforts to understand and promote sustainable conflict resolution, effective multilateral co-operation and efficient international organisation. PICCR is involved in research and dialogue activities that encourage and support principles of multilateralism and international co-operation in responding to armed conflict.
The FAS Arms Sales Monitoring Project works for transparency, accountability and deep reductions in global conventional weapons production and trade. Its aim is to prevent dangerous and wasteful military build-ups, and thereby reduce the likelihood of warfare and the lethality of warfare when it does occur.

The International Crisis Group (ICG) is an independent, non-profit, multinational organisation, with over 80 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. ICG's approach is grounded in field research. Teams of political analysts are located within or close by countries at risk of outbreak, escalation or recurrence of violent conflict. Regional Human Security Centre, Jordan
The Centre seeks to promote awareness of human security issues in the countries of the Middle East. More specifically, it seeks to do the following: identify common issues threatening the human security of people in the Middle East; serve as a forum where practitioners, experts, and academics can discuss and propose working solutions for human security threats; submit relevant recommendations and solutions to policy makers; raise the level of awareness of human security issues among practitioners and policy makers; serve as a source of information on human security issues in the Middle East; and conduct full-scale studies on human security issues.
Saferworld is an independent foreign affairs think tank working to identify, develop and publicise more effective approaches to preventing armed conflict. Saferworld has two research programmes: Arms and Security and Conflict Prevention.

The UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (ODA) provides substantive support for the role of the United Nations in preventing the proliferation of conventional weapons. Within the UN, ODA is responsible for the 'UN Coordinated Action on Small Arms', bringing together all 16 UN agencies for which the issue of small arms is relevant—from UNICEF and UNDP to UNHCR and the WHO. The Office services UN meetings under the 2001 Programme of Action on the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, and organizes regional implementation workshops and seminars. ODA's Conventional Arms Branch is a natural partner for the Small Arms Survey for cooperation both on the global and regional levels.
The regional centres, like the one in Lima, serve as useful extensions of the Department of Disarmament Affairs (DDA), in locations away from Headquarters. They act as platforms for discussing multilateral approaches to alleviate the risks of war and for adapting them to the regional context. They are catalysts within the UN system to foster debates and activities aimed at enhancing both security and development initiatives.

The Arms Trade Resource Center was established in 1993 to engage in public education and policy advocacy aimed at promoting restraint in the international arms trade. The Center performs research on the U.S. weapons trade and U.S. arms sales policy, and it publishes reports, magazine articles, and op-ed pieces on the issue. We also serve as a resource for the media, citizen's organizations, members of Congress, and executive branch policymakers.
