The Small Arms Survey is seeking expressions of interest from data experts. On demand, the consultant(s) will provide key content expertise to support the Survey’s global databases and other data-related projects.
The consultant(s) may be requested to:
- Support data collection and management of the Survey’s global databases.
- Develop new and innovative methodologies and tools for data collection and presentation, including through the use of new technologies/AI.
- Support data analysis for research outputs (publications, infographics, etc).
- Provide expertise on methodologies, data collection and analysis for specific projects.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of data-centered projects and activities.
- Contribute to reviewing and ensuring the quality of the Survey’s databases and data-related products.
- Present findings to target audiences, internal or external.
- Develop and implement training modules on relevant topics.
We are seeking expert(s) with the following profile:
- Strong interest in and ability to work with cutting edge geocoding and data visualisation platforms, database technology and infrastructure requirements, AI, big data, and machine learning tools and applications (knowledge of SQL or other languages, SPSS or R, python, cloud solutions are strongly desirable).
- Ability to work effectively in teams in a collaborative and cooperative spirit.
- Attention to detail, analytical rigour, and impartiality.
- Intellectual and analytical curiosity, notably with respect to analysing complex data.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate research findings to a general audience.
- Interest in and familiarity with international security and arms control, or other relevant policy fields.
Qualifications:
- PhD or MA with equivalent experience in social sciences, statistics, criminology, conflict studies, economy or other relevant domain.
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis and statistics.
- Fluent written and spoken English, additional languages an asset.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant work experience.
- Proven database and project management experience.
- A relevant publications record is an asset.
- Ability to undertake work-related travel.
