Database

The database produced by the Global Burden of Armed Violence (GBAV) project is based on an integrated approach to violence and records all violent deaths across the world, because each death contributes to the total toll of human violence. The database relies on multiple sources to measure the scale of violent deaths, including those in both conflict and non-conflict settings. The database emphasizes datasets that are disaggregated by the sex of the victim, the firearm used, and the location of the incident (sub-national level).

A measurable reduction of (firearm) violence would be one indication of the impact of policies implemented by states and other relevant actors (municipalities, for example) to confront the problem of armed violence.
