
Andrea Edoardo Varisco
Andrea Edoardo Varisco joined the Small Arms Survey as a consultant in August 2023.
Before joining the Survey, he worked as director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Arms Transfers Programme and as acting director of the SIPRI dual-use and arms trade control programme. Andrea worked as head of analytics for Conflict Armament Research and had field research experiences in conflict-affected countries in the Middle East, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has published his research in books, reports, and peer-reviewed articles, and he has authored and co-authored reports on arms control and weapons and ammunition management for national and international institutional partners, including national government agencies and national security and defence forces.
Andrea holds a PhD in Post-war Recovery Studies from the Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit, University of York, United Kingdom, a master's degree in International Affairs, Peace and Conflict specialisation, from the Australian National University, in collaboration with the Peace Research Institute Oslo, and a master's degree in Politics and Comparative Institutions from the University of Milan.
