
Paul Amoroso
Paul Amoroso is an explosive hazards and WAM consultant primarily working at present on strategic C-IED in West Africa. He has previously worked on arms control in the MENA region as a WAM advisor on the EU-LAS project as well as on a Private Security Company WAM project with ICoCA. Paul has expertise in advising INGO on risk mitigation, for their staff and interests, when operating in hostile explosive hazard environments. He previously worked for UNMAS in both Yemen and for three years in Somalia. During this period he was involved as secretary to the international working groups that developed the UN EOD military unit manual and the UN IEDD standards as well as the revised UN engineering unit manual.
Prior to this, he was an ordnance technical officer with the Irish Defence Forces with qualifications in ordnance mechanical engineering. During this time he was an IEDD operator qualified up to MNT level and a CBRNe commander. He filled operational, HQ staff and instructional appointments with a focus on IEDD, C-IED and improvised explosives. He has served with UNIFIL in South Lebanon in an IEDD and C-IED capacity and early in his career served in Liberia with the UNMIL Force Commander QRF as an infantry platoon commander.
Paul has an MSc in Explosive Ordnance Engineering and has published papers on a variety of topics including hybrid warfare, clandestine labs, strategy implementation, and explosive ordnance design. He continues to write and publish on strategic C-IED. He has also completed an MA in strategy with the National University of Ireland Cork, which included a study on C-IED strategic principles for East Africa.
